How it is calculated
One clock, four ways in
Everything on this page is a rendering of one number: completed days of gestation. The due date is the day that number reaches 280. Your last period puts day 0 at the first day of bleeding. A conception date puts day 14 there. An IVF transfer puts day 14 plus the embryo's age at the transfer. A due date you already have simply fixes day 280 and lets us count backwards.
Weeks are completed weeks, so the due date is week 40, not week 41, and “13 weeks 6 days” is still the first trimester. The second trimester begins at 14 weeks 0 days and the third at 28 weeks 0 days. The clock stops at 44 weeks so a stale date renders as a bounded number rather than nonsense.
All arithmetic is on calendar days, never on clock times, so the result is the same in every timezone and cannot flicker at midnight.
