For the most common type, the combined pill, if you've missed just one pill, take it as soon as you remember, even if that means taking two in one day. Then keep taking the rest of your pack as normal. With a single missed combined pill, you're usually still protected.

Two or more? Take the latest, use backup for 7 days

If you've missed two or more pills, take the most recent one now, leave any earlier missed ones, finish the pack as usual, and use a backup method like condoms for the next seven days. The first week of a pack matters most, so if you missed pills then and had unprotected sex, emergency contraception is worth considering.

Mini-pill? Timing is much stricter, check your leaflet
