If you're not breastfeeding, or only doing so occasionally, your hormones bounce back fairly quickly. Most people get their first postpartum period somewhere between six weeks and three months after birth.

Exclusively breastfeeding: prolactin can delay it for months

If you're exclusively breastfeeding, feeding on demand, day and night, the hormone that drives milk supply, prolactin, also suppresses ovulation. So your period can be delayed for many months, sometimes until you start weaning or your baby sleeps longer and feeds less.

First few periods can be irregular and different
